Penn Affinity 1000 Problems

Hello all.

Has anyone else out there had any problems with the Penn Affinity 1000 reel. Almost twice a session, I am getting knots forming in my braid as i cast. Is this a fault of the reel, line or rod??

Any suggestions?

Mostly the loading of the line. You need to slightly underfill your spool. 2mm of clearance to the lip should decrease your problems.
Also try to keep some tension on the line as you reel in. Loose line on the spool is the enemy as well.

Mate i use 3 of those reels and they are awesome. Try decreasing the line on the spool, stretching the first 30m of line, and running it through hot water when spooling up as well as what ted says...

Thanks guys, I'll give this a go. Any prefs on the type of braid? I've got a 1-3kg rod, so want to stay as light as possible, while also using the outfit for herring, tailor and flatties

Thanks

wind knots are caused by slack line taking up on the reel.

If you havent over filled the reel and are casting light lures aspply tension to the braid until the tension is taken up by the lure..

no loops then form on the spool

I have had no more problems than with any other reel - in fact I think this is the best value reel I have ever bought! I am picking up a second one for chrissy and got Sewelly to get in a spare spool a few months back. I use this reel for Skippy, Flatties, Bream, Queenies and small Trevs (Exmouth for the latter). It has never let me down.
