Hobie XL livewell mods
Hi Breamers,
Can someone show me some pics of there pump mods on the Hobie XL livewell. Mine doesn't fill up by its self and when i peddle to self prime doesn't fill up either. Hole at the bottom of the tube is facing forward to. Only way to get it going is to bucket in some water and then when you turn it off it drains and the black cover for the tube doesnt even fit. Cheers appreciated |

Yeah the taper on that cap looks weird - is the plug sleeve tapered or are you supposed to stretch it out over the outflow pipe
I know you've probably played around with the adjustable downspout and the "C"C clip - but just in case you havent Last edited by yellow door 1; 02-02-2019 at 06:31 AM. |

Are you using the 6v battery that came with it? how old is it? Mine only lasted acouple years before carking it then I replaced it with a 12v battery. Do you have a 12v battery you can try? If its installed correctly with the intake tube facing forward and your peddling fast enough then it should be working.

Hey mate,
Yeah its running the standard 6v battery. Last time i used it would prime with peddling and this time didn't. Interested to see people's set ups cause ive seen people running pipes off the pump so it doesnt drain and aerates the water better |

Put a one way valve in the filler tube and fill the livewell above the pump (not self priming) and this will solve your problem and not wear you out having to go fast to get it to prime.
Another modification some use is attaching a fuel primer bulb to the outlet of the pump and use that to prime the pump when turned on. My mate and I have really investigated this problem over the last year and these two methods work well. You would think for the amount you pay for the livewell you would think it would be plug and play but it is not. Hope this helps. |

It is a one way valve that fits inside the intake tube. Look on the internet i think they use them in Caravans.

Have you got the inlet facing forward on the end of your inlet tube for your livewell? Sometimes it needs a bit of effort to get the water into it. I've got a flowrite tube in mine. Will grab a pic next time I'm at my storage unit. This doesn't help with starting the flow but does stop the self draining and aerate the water. Another easy fix to stop self draining is get a balloon. Snip a small section off the top and put the end over the inlet inside the livewell. When the pump is turned off the balloon is sucked back into the inlet tube and stops it draining.
