Yep - he's still kicking - all the fins grew back but he's got a divot missing from his head

Yeah he's out in the pond now - all he has to worry about is the neighbours cat.

Its interesting to watch their personality change when they go outside. In the tank, he was like a puppy always charging up and begging for food - out in the pond they are always on high alert and you have to approach very slowly or they will dart back into their cave if you get too close.

I used to think it was my work mates tormenting them when I wasnt there - but one of the early birds mentioned he occasionally sees a cat staring into the pond - the cat has never caught one - but that would explain why the fish are on constant high alert.

Coincidentally - I was watching a vid the other night and the guy left the parents in with the fry - I think they were Rams heads.

He blacked out 3 sides of the tank and was very cautious when moving near the tank.

He reckons they eat their babies when they feel threatened - the logic is - why let this predator eat my babies - I'll eat them and use that energy into producing the next batch coz these guys are screwed anyway.

Just been searching for more theories

Even when they arent threatened, the parents tend to eat the babies with the worst hiding instincts first - even when they could easily take any baby they wanted - the bad hiders get taken first because they arent going to last in the wild anyway. So they are just mouthfuls of energy that will be eaten by someone else

Unfortunately - in a fish tank with inadequate hiding spots - they all become bad hiders. So they all get scoffed.

Also - in some tests, the fish will eat the less developed eggs or those that are from the latest spawn because they have put less time into guarding those.

A mate uses navionics on his phone for his boat GPS and he needed a mount - its a slow boat that doesnt bounce around much at its top speed of 15km an hour

The only requirements were - it needs to be a movable mount and single handed use for answering calls

So I cut up a block of wood - job done
