What bream species do you target?

It might be interesting to discover exactly how many of us fish for each of the species of bream that we have here in Australia.

Mmmmmm .... me too. I love the joint.

I rarely target yellowfin, but I've caught lots in East Gippsland. In fact, my PB bream is a yellowfin, that was caught on a bent minnow on the Marlo flats.

Blacks for me too, but yellowfin are a pleasant surprise when fishing in East Gippy. I reckon they pull harder than blacks?

I think they do too.

Maybe, if global warming eventuates as predicted, we might see lots of yellowfin slowly heading south west into areas that are now just black bream territory. That might not be so bad, provided the black bream aren't pushed out by the higher water temperatures. They have very different habits and they can co-exist successfully. It would be nice to have dusky flathead and prawns in my local estuaries.

The silver linings of climate change! I'm amazed at some of the tropical pelagics that are following the warm currents down south.

I’m right in the crossover zone of blacks and yellows, it turns into how you are fishing for them will depend on the catch!
For me if I stick to the front of my local estuaries or fish oysters the yellows are frequent but up in the snags it’s all blacks.

You're not trying hard enough. Perhaps if you actually spooled some line onto one of your collectors pieces you could use it?
