swivels & line twists
Swivels are used to prevent line twists, however when rigging sp's a direct connection from line/leader is the go, but does this create twists in the fireline or mono leader?

im not sure that it does.
you only use a swivel if the lure twists etc. with jigging, hardbodies the lure never actually rotates 360 degrees so you dont have that problem. i have never had a problem with line twists |

If you are using a baitcaster you will result in no line twist as the casting action does not add twist to the line. However with threadline reels every 3rd wrap around the spool in a length of a cast will result in approx. 1 twist in the line. To overcome this some reels have a sharp edged line guide roller that will remove the majority of the twist as you retrieve.
Using fine lines it wont be noticable for a fairly long time as the line is so fine it will absorb the twist without creating problems. Generally you will be replacing or removing frayed lines and damaged parts before the line shows marked twisting effects. On larger threadlines running say 40lb line you will see line twist after the first few hours of use, esp so if you use a threadline reel for deepwater work i.e. 400 feet deep. Tony.

Torvic,
You shouldn't get line twist using SP's as they (the jig head) don't spin but just bounce across the bottom. Fireline can come off your spool easy (more than one loop) but this is usually because its not packed on tight, casting light jigs and into the wind will exacerbate the problem. I have never used a swivel but others might have. Hope this helps. Jim
