Reel maintenance info

Hi guys
I thought id start a new thread concerning fishing reel maintenance, upgrade and repair
I'm sitting at work and I'm bored out of my brain lol
I haven't been servicing reels for very long, but I'be done a fair few now.
What I was thinking for this thread is maybe to provide a helping hand through t the use of pics and knowledge so that people can save money and not risk losing valuable time and gear sending in kit to companies for basic maintenance etc.
I might even put up some step by step guides or what not, much like some u.s websites do for big reels, but concentrate on gear we are more likely to use here.
Any thoughts?
Anyone out there who maintains reels for a living/serious hobby?
Feel free to post

Another reason is to inform folks of the need to lubricate your new reels when you first buy them, especially if you plan to put little reels to use on big fish

Like this stradic fj that I opened up recently

It came greased, though the majority of that grease was in the wrong spot and therefore not doing what it should be

The issues I have with using grease on gears is that it makes winding feel heavy and sticky. I used to grease my gears but all i use now is inox, winding feels smooth and light. But in saying that, grease will prevent extreme friction and loading. So what grease would you recommend that light enough not to bog down the gears nagz?

I have an issue with one of my older Daiwa reels where i can feel a bit of "bump" when I turn the reel over... don't get the same "bump" or "clunk" when in reverse though. I've been thinking about taking it apart for a while, but I'm a little hesitant, the main reason: When I first open it up, are there any small loose parts, springs etc that might fall out or be miss lodged? I just want to make sure I can remember where everything goes when I put it back together.

I use shellite to degrease my bits and pieces

Haven't tried it out yet but someone on the forum said it's the same as Quantum Hot Sauce.
