Only got one on lure. The one in the photo below was speared by a local after it started stalking his kids, who were playing in the shallows. That’s a size ten thong in the back ground

Notice how Slaz is holding the rod very carefully in the 2nd pic of the flutefish, no way would he let a reel of his touch the sand

I true respecter of reels, wouldn’t dream of letting his reel get that close to sand

We get those big puffers but more of a spine football orlf sorts not a big toothed torpedo like you've shown. Bastard things when you've got half a hook missing or half a HB lure retrieved.

Well sand does some weird things. This my new 2nd hander basher FJ 5K that was full, but no wear and tear from it (even inside the gear case) - finest sand I've ever seen or felt. Got absolutely everywhere - but surprisingly it's as smooth as my FL 5K... Go figure?

Geez - I reeled back in horror when I saw that sand. Bad flash backs

Way back in the day, a mate of mine borrowed an out fit to fish the estuary while we were surf fishing.

When I get back, I find he has got bored and just laid the out fit down in the sand. That was the first stradic I ever owned and to say I was a little disappointed was an understatement. The fact that he had laid it down only meters from the boat we drove up the estuary in, did not help.

I rinsed most the sand out and the crunch went away eventually - but it’s experiences like that, that mean I don’t sell old outfits. I just keep them to lend to novices who aren’t aware of all the ways you can stuff up gear

Haha, "..one careful owner, always cleaned after use..."

How many FJs do you have now Slaz?

I've stopped counting... I've got in the FJ a 1000, 2500, 3000, 5000 (2) & 8000 - notably hard to find a 4000 & 6000 as most are worn out.

Some of all the Ci4 & + series and older FH's and a FG - some spare spools and this and that.

And a few other reels.

Is this a deliberate mod, or an unhappy meeting with the spokes on your tredly?

Sorry to drag this thread off piste..

I lent that rod to another mate - different to the other prick

We were fishing a rock ledge and I come around an out-crop and see this idiot using the end of it to bump limpits off rocks for bait. See ya later cork butt. (admittedly I had hack-sawed the butt off to shorten it before he got at it )

And the only reason I even owned that rod is - the same idiot bought it for me after breaking another rod I own.

So you can see why I now keep a complete set of second string out fits

Yeah we were chucking big herring at Kings and a few of those NWB's showed up in the trail. They had us fooled into thinking they were kingies.

One took 4 bights out of a 38cm herring and their wasnt much left.

A kingy did show up eventually.
