Savage Reels - Black etc

Hi guys,

Any of you know who is making the Savage branded reels? and are they any good? I have seen on the international sites and forums that Savage are affiliated with Okuma. So perhaps made by them?

Had a play with the reels in store, they feel heavy but smooth.

DohDohDoh are owned by Super Retail Group that also own DohDohDohDoh Outdoors, Supercheap Auto and Rebel.

Okuma are a Taiwanese based OEM rod and reel manufacturer.

Savage Gear USA is marketed and distributed by Okuma USA.
Savage gear is owned by Svendsen Sports.

"Svendsen Sport A/S operates as a subsidiary of Lars Svendsen Holding ApS."

Svendsen Sport have been marketing Okuma since 1987
"LS: Early on we realised that Okuma had a very high quality in relation to its price, but the company had a total lack of structure and management in its European sales in the early 1990s. The factory was a big-brands sub-supplier and was only selling 60,000 Okuma-branded reels in Europe per year at that time.
Over the years, Okuma has made some giant leaps in technology, innovation and product strategies and at the same time our company has also developed a lot. All in all we have created a very solid partnership, which today is selling more than one million reels in Europe per annum.
We have never had any plans to create our own reel brand. Today practically every European wholesaler – big or small – has their own reel brand. And what we are talking about are a few standard reels from the same Chinese factories with different labelling.
Some wholesalers have invested in their own moulds from these factories, giving some different designs, but real ‘engineered brands’ with their own R&D, patents and production facilities such as Shimano, Daiwa and Okuma, you can count on one hand."

I'm not sure who manufactures Savage Gear reels

Thanks for the reply Kelvin, I bought a couple thanks to some vouchers. So far so good. I haven't worked out who makes them yet either. I haven't emailed Alan in many years, I figured with everyone knowing about him now he may be busy

If your happy with the performance of the reel - I would just leave it at that. Use it with some care, lubricate it during its lifetime and keep in mind that one day it will swallow its tongue and that's that. Parts availability hmm questionable - most likely if something goes wrong, B.C.F would just replace it at best (if they choose).

If you want to see what makes it tick great - however if you want to be honestly disheartened by what you see inside - I wouldn't get someone to crack it open and give their opinions about it.
