Has any one used bacon rind as bait.

I know streaky bacon is big in the USA with the blokes who chase fluke (big flounder) on lead head jigs. They use the bacon like a soft plastic trailer to enhance both visual and scent appeal. (take note spinner bait users)

But I'm thinking the rind might make an easy to manage Mullet bait - I usually use chicken or prawn cut into thin squares 3mm by 3mm coz the small mouth mullet I chase are often 4 to 6 inches.

To cut those tiny baits, I have to half freeze the bait and use a really sharp knife to get the thickness and size I require - its a bit of mucking around I could do with out.

But cutting similar size baits from bacon rind would be a piece of p1ss - no freezing required.

So in short - do Aussie fish dig on Swine?

Yeah I remember many moons ago up at the Murray.....One of the boys was outfishing us all on the carp and noone knew why - he finally let it slip that he had scraped the fat off the BBQ grill and had been smearing it on his dough baits

I'll give it a crack on the mullet soon

Should be good on fresh & salt varieties, bit of oil slick & smell might work for reddies, carp, yellow door bellies, snapper, gummies etc

Yeah I was just thinking back and I've caught mullet on beef so the bacon shouldnt be too big a stretch. I like the idea of a bit of gristle with some fat hanging off it as a bait. The gristle holds the bait on the hook and the fat is the delicious enticer

I would be careful feeding any sort of cured/processed meat products to fish. I used to have a pet bass in my fish tank, but after my uncle thought it would be a good idea to fed him a bit of cooked sausage he fell off his perch.

Damn - that's an unfair suck of the Sav.

The fish I'll be feeding it to will get a big hook in their back shortly after
