Problem we have Bubba is that there ARE stingers manufactured for use in plastics. You've seen me use them. I believe they are the Gama G-Lock stingers.

Taking fish care into account again, do we then ban all size 4 light jigs that can be easily swallowed with small plastics.

The only point I'm trying to make here is that I don't think it is as simple or fair to say to ban them. If we are going to take this stance then I think there would need to be a lot more banned than just stingers.

At this stage WABT would need to see some evidence during competitions of fatalities from this method, until that happened I doubt the subject of using stingers will raise its head in any review of the rules.

The debate can too and fro all day long, with all sorts of pro's and cons, I think we'll all agree that the longevity and the sustainability of the stocks are the paramount issue which we'll all agree with.

Over the last number of years the industry has undergone emmence changes, for good and for bad some might say, but the fact is, the times are a chang'n.

Weather I think something is not correct, or you think something else is not the way it should be, these points are irrelivent.

What was seen as unscruplious luring practice in times gone by, are nowdays common practice, what nowdays is seen as dodgy techneques will tomorrow be the norm... this is the way of the world.

The point being attempted to be made is this.

The industry and just fishing in general , done by the local guy down the pier, to the father teaching his pride and joy how to angle, to the "elite" lure fisherpeople, etc etc, are under immence pressure from certain parties to stop us and to totally BAN alll fishing full stop. When we start bickering between ourselves over such trivial matters as "an extera hook", or "scents" or "lures made from bait", can't we see that we're simply playing straight into their politically correct hands?

Does it really matter what the guy next to us caught his fish on?
With such big bucks donated and on offer, do we seriously think our morralistic values will provail and stop someone else from using a meothod "I" think is unscruplious?

At the end of the day, the reasoning WE should all be looking at is...Did I have fun...YES....... Have I hurt anyone....NO....... Are the sustainability of the local fish stocks upheld?... YES

Lets not help the very enemy trying to stop us all.

Cheers

not for me

I have only tried the stinger hooks once and went back to the standard rig . A bit too much time wasting for me.

But after a couple of fish dieing in the last two comps due to stingers I'm not going to try them again. Not worth the chance for me.

Stingers

My two cents worth.

Well we live in a democratic society, so how about we have a vote on it?
Its not what other comps are fishing, ie ABT allows them,
but what WABT members want.
Surely if we do promote catch and release we really should be looking at causing as little damage to fish as possible.
I have only fished them twice and havent had a problem, but surely the risk of damage to a fish is definitely increased with stingers.
Banning them would definitely help level the playing field because they are an advantage IMO.

cheers Muzz

that is not to say I wont use them if they are not banned.

Richo,
You state that WABT will not be reviewing it until their is fatalities in a comp.
Don has just stated "But after a couple of fish dieing in the last two comps due to stingers I'm not going to try them again. Not worth the chance for me"

Pretty damning evidence to me. I guess the other thing is that why state that you are going to wait. Why not be proactive about it. There is almost 50% or respondants to this poll voting no! Its not about the others saying it is ok but the fact that there is that many people concerned about it!

Come on guys, this is getting past the stage of a minority wanting it changed. What about some of you other seasoned comp anglers? Comments?

Muzz as you said you have fished them and havnt had a problem, 99% of others who fish them have never had a problem, if we start looking at banning things before there is clear evidence of increased damage, where do we stop - very small lures like sneakies and sx-40s etc probably have a just as much chance of damaging fish because of the lure size and possibilty of being inhaled. IMO if we look at fatalities over time, hard bodies have caused a few. I wonder do we vote on that as well.

I personally dont use them and have previously posted that I dont agree with there use. IF there was a vote I wouldnt be voting them out until Ive seen or heard evidence that they are bad.

I cant understand how would banning them would level the playing field, nobody has been excluded from using them at present so I cant see where there use could be seen as unfair. Isnt it a personal choice what lure is tied on.?

As I said Ive never been for them, but I suppose innocent until proven guilty. Id say more guys will use them now and possibly with more fish caught on them we will soon know what effect they have.

It is a hard one.

cheers

If they were definite fatalities due to stingers then as I said their will no doubt be a review of the use.
