Stinger hooks

I am not sure if anyone has tried this but is it possible to put a stinger hook on a soft plastic grub?

Thanks for the link.
But i wasnt sure if the stinger would ruin the action of the grubs tail, i will still give it a try..... It was very frustrating this arvo getting big hits with the tail missing, only millimetres away from the hook!

Nah mate, it would just mess up the tail action.. What size grub? most grubs used in breaming are only 2 or 3 inches long anyway.

Yeh i was using a 2 inch grub and i kept getting short bites.... I only fished a short time and i had a few big hits and 1 undersize whiting. I lost a good size tailor too, but that was hooked when i was bringing the lure in fast.
Would anyone recomend tying a stinger with thin braid, hidden in the lure mostly?

Nah wouldn't recommend it in a 2" grub, if it's choppers chomping your tails well you should switch to a hardbody. if you think its bream than you need to choose more a robust plastic or use hardbodies. What grub are you using?

Gulp pumpkinseed grub, i think they were bream coz i was getting the hits at the bottom in about 4 - 5 metres of water, and the takes were slow and heavy.

Gulp isn't plastic so you will always have issues with fish nicking the tails.. Try placcies like Atomic 2" fat grubs or Squidgy wrigglers.

Yeh i totally agree i just used the gulp because the sun had gone down so i put the gulp on coz it has scent and the colour stood out... The only squidgy wrigglers i had were the smallest size in bloodworm and i had no s factor left so i put on the gulp.
I have used atomic hardz but have never used the plastics, i might get a packet!

on t-tail grubs you can run a stinger.


using mono/flouro is too stiff and stuffs the action.

You would be surprised how much action you will have if you use a piece of braid instead of mono/flouro for the stinger.

I find it easier to tie braid for a stinger than mono/flouro.

Personally I reckon Stingers can be a bit of a waste of time. I like most fishos have had days of complete frustration getting heaps of tail bites and not hooking up. During these times i have gone to the stinger on many occasions and have managed to hook a few although have often found the quality of fish has been pretty poor.

I reckon Stingers have a place on those hard days although most quality Bream will go for the head and not the tail. Stingers can seriouly interfere with the action of the plastics as well.

Less is often better. You can use a stinger on a small grub, but your probably better of without one.

I'm no expert, just my opinioin.

Yeh longreach i think ur rite about the braid for the stinger will definately try that on a gulp worm....

Ur so true breamobsession, if the bream is big enough it should be able to eat the whole thing, but im glad to know that im not the only one struggling with heaps of tails being bit off!
