line\lure clips?

Hey guys,
just getting my gear ready for my trip to Coota at the weekend and am wondering if people use the small clips on soft plastics? Or is it mainly a HB/vibe thing?
Its easy enough to just retie the lure to the line? Does it give a better action with the clips?

Most people will say tie direct with a loop knot (Edit: Or maybe they won't ). I can't argue with the logic that less hardware means less chance to spook fish by looking un-natural but I'm not convinced it holds true.

for reasons of convenience and time saving I fish all lures (hard and soft) on decoy round clips and can't say I've noticed any impact on catch-rate.

I fish clips to hard bodys or a loop knot if there is no split ring at the bib.

A straight fish-n-fool to a jighead, no clips.

The Gama clips are so much better than Decoys.

Fishing loop knots on plastics don't make sense to me, if anything I want as much direct contact with the jighead as possible to impart action, but I guess it depends how small the loop really is.

If I've got them I always use clips, HB or SP. Usually size 00 Decoys, or if it's cold and I've cut my nails too short, size 0 (they can be hard to open).

Definitely saves time and means you don't need to keep shortening your leader. Whether it improves the action of a lure I don't know, but I don't believe it reduces the action.

Pontoon 21 ET Clips... Since made the move to them from the Decoys and havent looked back!

A decoy 00 or 0 for comparison.

Are they quite easy to use Slaz?
I've tried to use decoys before but I just couldn't get them to work for me.
Spent more time trying to open a 00 than it took me to tie a loop knot, so i reverted (No nails).

I can get the ET snaps from Rob easily so might have to grab a pack if you think they are a lot quicker and easier then the decoys.

Check out Master Angler Jack.

Looks like you can just slide the split ring down the snap and then it pops onto your lure easy. Definitely going to have to get some of these.

How do they go without a split ring? I remove mine if I'm using clips (other than on some deep bibbed lures where the tow point is recessed into the bib)

There are few things with Pontoons clips: Firstly, they are tiny!

Secondly, they are rated to only 3kg in M size. The Gamakatsu Hyper EZ in No. 1 is rated to 15kg.
Size - Strength (kg)
1 - 15
2 - 23
3 - 35
4 - 48
5 - 54
6 - 65

I know which ones I am going to use...

Yeh theyre rated thats about all... bit like drags "rated".

Anyhow the Pontoon 21 clips rating is quiet underrated by a large margin.

Without starting a whats better page - the Pontoon 21 are another option.

For what it's worth I use these owner clips which I get from PLAT when ordering other gear. They are easier to use (get your fumbly cold fingers around) than the similar Decoy clip and have a great rating for their size
