Clips yes or no
Just wondering if using clips from leader to lure is a go to move?
I normally just tie the leader to the split ring on hbs and the hook eye on sp. I can see how it would make a faster change over of lures, but is that the only advantage?

I always use clips on my hardbodies cause I do like to change hards a bit.If ya gonna tie your leader to the tow point on the lure without a clip, tie on a loop knot as this will help with the lures action! I have never had a clip fail on me.Some say this could be another element to go wrong, but im yet to see this happen. As for plastics I just ussually tie to the eye of the jig head!

i usually use clips but have had clips open up. The decoy ones are generally pretty awesome but they do open up occasionally, not sure if its when a bream bites on the clip and opens it or not. I have had snags when I have used sustained pressure against the clip and the clip opens up.
I have rarely had one fail when I am fighting a fish though which is good |

Also the clip can also help with the lure action,as its still has a bit of loop in the clip to allow freedom of the lure to wobble and give it,it's sexy action.

Knots, I always add about 30 cm of trace to my leader so I can cut and retire lures. I only really use clips when squidding, far to much finesse for my liking to be used with bream. imho.

I always take the split ring off the rowing ring of any new lure I buy. I always use Decoy snaps, as I like to change lures frequently, plus the snaps allow the lure to move naturally as opposed to tying directly to the towing ring with a non-loop knot.
I think that loop knots are probably more effective, as there's nothing to spook finnicky fish, but they take up too much leader when you're constantly changing lures, besides, I'm a little suss about loop knots in general, as I have had a few wear through and break during long fights. The line has broken in the actual loop, presumably from the many head shakes, etc, causing friction between the line in the loop and the towing ring of the lure. I would have thought the line would break at the knot before breaking elsewhere, if the break was entirely due to pressure alone. I've never lost a fish due to a faulty Decoy snap, so I'm happy to keep on using them. |

If I'm in a position where I'm changing lures a lot I normally tie on a Decoy size 1 snap. I find the size 0 size a bit fiddly.
I picked up a couple of packs of Owner P-20s in size 000 this morning. These thing are tiny and easy to do up. If I'm not changing lures too often I still prefer a loop knot or tie direct to a split ring.

I'm the only idiot left on the forum that still uses a loop knot instead of clips and actually finds it less fiddly than using a clip
