clips

I know most people fish clips with blades, but what about plastics and hard bods, does it affect your fishing and the action of the lure

I use clips for all hard bods. I'm yet to see it affect the action of any of my lures as the clips I use are very small.

I tie straight to the jighead for soft plastics. I've contemplated using a loopknot or clip to the jighead. Might trial it over summer. In theory it's probably best to tie straight to the jighead to maximise sensitivity .

Plenty of threads on the topic. Would recommend having a search

I use decoy round snap 00's on all my hards. I find it improves the action and they provide a much stronger connection than a loop knot or if you are using 2 or 3lb leader. Another added bonus is also very quick lure changes.

Hey mate,

Do you use your fingers to open the 00's? I found it really difficult to open the decoys. I'd prefer to use them as they are rounder and would promote more action on wide wobbling lures but I can't open them without destroying them haha.

I have used the decoys a couple of times and find them very hard to operate/ open; they are a bit small for me. What's your secret.

Just lightly press the clip with your thumb nail to open them if you press to hard that's when you can bend them and this is what will cause you to loose a good fish plus lure. I always check the clip before toeing one on jut to make sure I won't have an expensive and frustrating session.

I take Black Magic rolling swivels with snap and remove the swivel. Find the snap easy to use given my short 'solid' fingers and while they may be a little heavier than round / egg snaps they dont appear to reduce the action of the lures that I use ... and as has been said they allow for quick change. Regards. HBt.

No need on plastics mate, tie straight to the jig head. As for hards a heap of people use the 00 Decoys ect. I personally just tie a loop knot only cause i find it less fiddly and can do it quicker than the time it takes me to undo the clip

Decoy Spiral Snaps for me. They are great for hards. Although lately I have been tying straight to split ring which has been fine too. Does anyone know if you can buy the jackall split rings????? Love them

Oval split rings? Plenty of companies make them. Might be able to get them at your local.

I love the oval split rings on jackalls but I haven't seen them anywhere. I'd like to replace all the rings on my lures with oval split rings.

I find the Decoy 00 too small for my fingers and cant get them into poppers so I use the 0 size. They are only slightly bigger and easier to operate. I also use them for all lures and jigheads UNLESS i'm in really rocky areas when I go with out when using plastics and just tie a loop knot.

I use the BREADEN snaps size 00 and you don't actually open them as much as you just "twist" the lure on and off. Maybe the decoys are the same?

Put the eye of the lure into the "tag" of the clip, and then just torque it a bit and it slide in and comes out the same way.

Yeah, I sometimes use clips on my hard bods, but I usually just tie straight to a jighead when fishing plastics.
