Hey mate,

I use Owner snaps for blades and the Decoy spiral snaps for everything else. Like you I hate tying loop knots. I take the split rings of all my lures.

Also sometimes during winter I CBF with the snaps cause you can't feel them in your fingers so I tie uni knots but leave a small loop in the end. Basically an easier version of the loop knots. Probably not as strong but I havn't had any problems yet.

Cheers

Joel

I use the Decoy snaps. Extremely small, so dont effect the action of your lures but are really hard to open with your fingers and pliers are almost mandatory.

IMO - they are a waste of time and can dampen the action of the lure. I am reasonably unco at the best of times, factor in cold wet hands and fiddling around with clips is just not worth the hassle. I can tie a knot much quicker, even in the dark.

I use the 00 size Breaden egi clips when i'm lazy and I have to say they do screw the action of many lures.

Yet to try the decoys but definitly will.

Also with the snaps remember you dont really open them as much as twist the lure out of them...if that makes sense.

My fishing mate uses tiny clips and they dont change the action of the lure at all...he even uses them on jig heads and still catches as many fish as me...

But why are you using a loop knot. The loop not was designed for lures that did not come with a split ring attatched to the towing eye. It allowed the lure to swivel on the line loop...

Nearly all modern lures come with splitrings on the tow points so a loop knot is nothing more than a weak spot. Use a uni knot or similar.

Loop knots weaken your leader strength but are brillant when using jigs in deep snaggy areas because the leader will nearly always break at the loop knot instead of your leader/mainline knot meaning you can just be tying on fresh jigs and not tying whole leaders as well.

What a simple logical solution to something that annoys me no end.

Thanks Bender.
