Lure Clips?

Hey guys just looking up some lure clips, seems like a really good way to change em quickly.

Just a question for guys who use em - so basically you tie your leader to the the clip and then throughout the day you can just unclip it from the tow point on the lure and put it on another?

Also i heard someone say that the clips are only good for one use, is this true?

Thanks In Advance

i've been using clips for a couple of years now. Its very rare that i don't tie one on and constantly re-use them.

I use the Decoy Round Snap size 0, rated to 20lb

the operation is simple, tie leader to clip, clip on lure, easy as.

They are great but for some reason i have seem to go back to tieing. If its only for bream and you can find reasonbaly small ones it does cut out alot of tieing especally if the fish aren't biting and you are changing between lures.

decoy #0 or my fav is the OWNER #0, the owners are a lot easier to operatte with your fingers, i find i can only use small pliers to get the Decoys open and close

I've used the Decoy in 00 and 0 and find them hard to open and close, maybe cause I have no fingernails. I stopped using them cause I usually ended up bending the clip or like Hotrods have to use small pliers to open and close, the time it took fiddling around I could have retied a uni knot and only lose a bit of leader.

Tiny clips are a great idea, i used to use them all the time but i found as i got more confident in flicking closer structure, after a fish or two my leader was coming up a little damaged so i would end up retying my knots anyway.. so the clip didn't really serve much purpose anymore seeing as though i like retie so often.

if you do end up using clips, remove the front split ring on your lures because it is no longer needed..

I find a knot is definatley better with softies but the Decoys in OO size are great clips and I use them all the time with hardbodies. Yeh - you got to have fingernails or they are pretty fiddly little critters and I usually replace a clip after a reasonable session because they do lose some tension with repeated use. I also remove any split rings from the tow point, particularly where the tow point is on the nose of the lure (eg. MX 48) or with vibes but not if its a diving minnow and the tow point is on bib (eg SX 40) because the clips are too difficult to use without a split ring in that situation. The OO Decoys are so small and light I really don't think they have much impact on the action of the lure and with an 18lb rateing I've yet to have one fail.

we got the Damiki Double Lock Snaps in as a special order - liked them on the Vaults so got them in - they're exclusive to us at the moment

like the Decoy Round Snaps aswell

i use small pliers when my fingers are too fat to make the clips work - cold weather doesn't help

Decoy EGG snaps are my favorite, though you do want to get rid of the split ring as stated......it won't always affect the weight of the lure this way as it's one for the other.
Cheers.

I use clips only for my hardbody lures, but not for soft plastics because they tend to screw the action up on plastics (I believe). well yea good luck.

Cheers Fisho
