I almost exclusively use clips. I'm land based and only take one rod with me so the need to change lures is more than if was on a boat. The ease of switchin between a variety of HB or jighead weights is a huge benefit. If i am fishin off a boat i only have clips on my HB rods as my jighead weight doesn't change as much.

I use the decoy snaps in sizes 00 & 0. Landed fish up to 4kg on them with no problems.

I use both, loop knots when shorebashing and the clips when on the boat for hardbodies. Don't use clips with jigheads though.

Both catches fish. I use the clip that is on the photo on the forum (flashing photo) the one with the purple vibe on it. Only thing with clips is occasionally just kinda gets stuck to the treble or it gets stuck between the split ring of the lure and the clip loop.

Life would be a nightmare on a boat without the clips! Thanks God for the bloke who invented these things!

hello guys
thanks for the replys. i wasn't sure. i know the clips can affect the way the lure swims but with the knot i have found that if you don't take the split ring off the line seems to work its way around and come off. guess i'll have to get some clips then.
cheers shayne

Now this might sound strange, but I prefer loop knots purely because trying to undo those tiny little clips are to hard, lol, I end up bending them out of shape.

If I'm using an HB with trebles, I use a clip. I find the rear treble fouls easily in a loop.
A lot of my HBs have had the trebles replaced with singles, I use a loop for these as they dont foul as easily.

Why do I use singles and trebles...? Singles dont get snagged anywhere nearly as much as trebles, so, depending on where Im fishing determines the hook.

I ue a loop knot because i can tie a loop faster than i can undo and close a clip.
Clips also dampen my confidence but it probably doesn't make a difference.

Nah it doesn't make any difference at all.

Both of these fish were caught with clips. 4kg Jewie, 3kg Salmon.

Also the decoy clips are rated 18 & 20lb for the 00 & 0 sizes.

Yeah but I've caught big salmon out of schools here in S.A using squid-jags and bare jigheads!

Nice jewie and salmon but!

clips

Dont know if many guys have come across the owner micro snaps but they are fantastic, they come in 2 sizes (0 and 1) and are available from tackleworld. From memory 7 and 9 kilo and as the name suggests they are tiny but the great thing I love about them is one side is the clip and the other is half a swivel.Since I have been using them on hardbodys I have not had line twist at all and have had a loop not maybe once or twice in about 2 or 3 years.I cant speak highly enough about them they are insane and I dont feel they have effected my catch rate at all.Cheers Mark
