Snap Clips - What's your say?

Hi people.

I had mixed messages about using or not snap clips like the Decoy...

I have never used them but I can understand the benefit of not having to tide up a loop knot every time you change your lure..

However, I'm not 100% sure how it could impact the lures action compared to the loop knot. Does it really make much of a difference in the lure action?

What's your say?

Cheers
G

Dependant on the lure, some dont like the extra weight/resistance at the front.

Having said that, I love using the Decoy snaps for my vibes. Quick and easy changes. Not mention when you turn up to a comp you can just have the clip on and people dont know what your fishing

I would grab some, Decoy if you dont have some , and try out the action in clear water.

lures action will remain the same but make sure u use the smallest size possible because the weight of the clip will change the lures bouyancy!

great way to make fast floating lures, float slower or suspend, or even suspending lures sink...

im happy to use them in 80% of situations.
the black decoys in a #0 are my pick, quite hard to undo and do up and a nice round profile to alow the lure to sway around unhindered.
also the #0 and #1 in the Owners (chrome) are probly easier to use and i use them the most.

to date ive never had 1 pull on a fish so all good IMO

as for lure action on ultra small lure they will add enough weight to alter the boyancy. suspend might sink and flaot might slow down or suspend so it pays to do a test.

winter for small SP's..back to a loop knot to kep th profile as minimal as possible...

over all they are a good option and if your a lure swapping freak like me the allure of NOT having to retie knots all the time is a HUGE bonus

they are good if you can get them undone sometimes it quicker to tie another knot than fiddle with a little clip esp when you have big fingers

I used them for a while but gave up on them for this reason

Just started using the decoy clips in size 00 and am happy with the results. They area bit fiddley but the advantage once you get the hang of them is great. the 00 size adds very little weight and does not effect the action at all. they are rated for 18lb or so, so no dramas there. The biggest advantage for me is that i only have to tie one really top notch knot all day. I use needle nosed pliers to open and close the clips too

Just go and get some 00 sized fingers

I use them on all my hardbodies and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I actually use the 00 ones which seem to work well and are a little smaller. It helps if you have a longer fingernail to get them undone.

Dale.

Ew I can't stand lure clips for beam lures, I either tie a loop knot to the attach point when using heavier leaders or tie a uni knot strait to the split ring with ligher leaders (3,4lb).

Im sure the clips wouldn't affect catch rate all that much but to me they look out of place!

JMO.

I use the 00 Decoys in all my Breamin HB situations - mainly because I'm fishing from the yak & I like to change lures often and my eyesight is buggered without the reading glasses these days. Caught counless fish between 5 & 45 cm on them and never lost one due to clip failure.
Prefer to tie a loop for softies though. Cheers Paul.

I have a supplier of evergreen clips and they are very high quality and very small. I wouldn't use them on anything other than bream gear though.

HI people.

I tried the snap clips over the weekend ... and so far it worked for me.... I caught a couple of breams whilst they were on the bite....

When bream went quite, I used a Loop know but no difference...

Cheers

had my first ecoy clip open on me the other day while fishing out on the boat... it was the larger size than the 00's but yeh never had a 00 open up n let go???? I trust them and its saved many a change in knot and loss of Fluro leader...

i trust them and cant see the detriment of using them at all???
