I personally wouldn't go a jigging rod for bait fishing - especially if it is going in the holder. But I mean, it would do it. A GP overhead rod like Terez would be more suited to what you want to do, I think.
Don't discount Okuma Komodo's in the biggest size. They're bulletproof and straight workhorses! They look a bit average like me, but they do the job really well while being low-profile and compact.
